OSCILLOSCOPE MUSIC

Oscilloscope Music is music that creates it's own visuals. The same signal that goes to the speakers is also fed into an analog oscilloscope to draw glowing green lines. The left and right audio channels correlate with the horizontal and vertical axes of the image. Parametric functions are meticulously crafted to create synesthetic geometries in a lab aesthetic that is retro and futuristic at the same time. The tricky part is to create images that sound good and vice versa, which rules out most conventional methods of synthesis, mixing and mastering.

THE LONG AWAITED NEW EP

We first announced the NEW EP in 2018, two years after the first Oscilloscope Music album. Many attempts have been made and scrapped since then. All kinds of things have happened since then. But most importantly, our plans eventually took shape better than we had ever imagined. If the first album was a proof of concept, this EP is the purpose of the concept. Oscilloscope Music is now completely functional and ready to ascend to the next dimension. This NEW EP sounds rougher and more uncompromising, yet closer to the dancefloor and on an entirely new level of complexity. It will (most likely) feature 5 tracks, with a complete play time of around 30 minutes. Since Oscilloscope Music is almost entirely based on parametric functions, it is possible to store only these functions in an executable program and let this program create the audio and video output. The storage space required for such a program is just a fraction of an audio or video file. For FUNCTION it is roughly 41KB in size. Due to this extremely small file size it is possible to store the executables for the entire audiovisual EP in Windows / MacOS versions all on one 3.5" 1.44MB floppy disk (a.k.a. the save icon). So in addition to the download (audio / video / executables) there will also be a limited hardware release on 3.5" floppy disk + booklet with artwork and code snippets.

EP PREORDER

With either download or hardware preorder you can instantly download the video (MP4 h264, 4k 50fps / 1080p 50fps), audio (WAV/FLAC/MP3) and beta executable files for FUNCTION, and you will receive another email with your download code for the EP once it is released. Hardware preorders will be shipped around the EP release date. (In case you preordered while the website still said it comes on an SD card, you will still have the option to get the SD card instead.) When will it come out? We absolutely don't know (we work slowly). But it will definitely come out.

OsciStudio 7 will be released along with the EP. New features will include:
